What talking therapies are available?
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)

CBT is a way of talking about how you think about yourself, the world and other people and can help you to change how you think (cognitive) and what you do (behaviour).

This therapy focuses on the here and now to help you change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviours that are causing or maintaining your current problems. It involves doing practical exercises with your therapist or as homework

Counselling is a talking therapy that provides a safe and confidential space to think about and explore any problems with a professional counsellor. Sessions can be carried out one to one or as a couple with a trained counsellor and some providers may offer telephone counselling.
Other forms of therapy include:
  • Computer-based cognitive behavioural therapy
  • Mindfulness courses
  • Stress management courses
